In mid-2025 we spent a few days with LeRobot, the open-source robotics platform Hugging Face has been building. The aim was modest — understand what physical-agent tooling looks like from the inside, and whether anything in it would feed back into the agent-based work we were already doing on the software side.

LeRobot arms

The short answer was no, not directly. Our day-to-day agents sit next to schedules and decision documents, not robot arms. Robotics needs different muscle: hardware sourcing, calibration discipline, embodied-AI pipelines, safety review — muscle we don’t have and don’t intend to build as a line of work.

The longer answer was yes, structurally. Capabilities exposed as APIs, agents as primary consumers, the rendered UI as a transient surface — that turn in software agents is the same shape LeRobot makes in another direction. A robot arm consuming an API to act in the world has the same protocol silhouette as a software agent consuming an API to act on a process model. Different physics, same idea.

So we walked past — but it’s the kind of thing worth a return visit if a project ever needs both sides of that pipeline at once.
